Any person can ask for free drinking water at hotels, restaurants, and serais. They cannot refuse or charge you.

🚻 Washroom Access

Public establishments must allow use of washroom facilities. This is considered a basic human right.

Legal Background

The Serais Act, 1867 requires innkeepers and hotel proprietors to provide basic amenities including drinking water to travelers.

Article 21 of the Indian Constitution guarantees the Right to Life, which has been interpreted by courts to include access to clean drinking water.

The Supreme Court of India has repeatedly held that access to clean water is a fundamental right.

What to Say If Refused
